چکیده

Abstract. A higher-order strongly nonlinear model is derived to describe the evolution of large amplitude internal waves over arbitrary bathymetric variations in a two-layer system where the upper layer is shallow while the lower layer is comparable to the characteristic wavelength. The new system of nonlinear evolution equations with variable coefficients is a generalization of the deep configuration model proposed by Choi and Camassa (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1999) and accounts for both a higher-order approximation to pressure coupling between the two layers and the effects of rapidly-varying bottom variation. Motivated by the work of Rosales and Papanicolaou (Studies Appl. Math., 1983), an averaging technique is applied to the system for weakly nonlinear long internal waves propagating over periodic bottom topography. It is shown that the system reduces to an effective Intermediate Long Wave (ILW) equation, in contrast to the KdV equation derived for the surface wave case.

Relationship between head wave amplitudes and seismic refraction velocities to detect lateral variation in the refractor

Refractor ambiguities are big problem in seismic refraction method especially in seismic engineering. There can be hidden subsurface geological phenomena such as hidden faults and shear zones which are not simply predicted by the travel-time graph or some geophysical methods. Head wave amplitudes are used to show the resolution of refractor ambiguities and the existence of anisotropy in complex...

Effects of Per-Pixel Variability on Uncertainties in Bathymetric Retrievals from High-Resolution Satellite Images

Increased sophistication of high spatial resolution multispectral satellite sensors provides enhanced bathymetric mapping capability. However, the enhancements are counter-acted by per-pixel variability in sunglint, atmospheric path length and directional effects. This case-study highlights retrieval errors from images acquired at non-optimal geometrical combinations. The effects of variations ...

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia

As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

Providing a Model for Assessment Internal Control Quality Based on the Characteristics of the Entity, the Characteristics of Auditor and Their Expected Goals in the Firm's Listed in Teh-ran Stock Exchange

According to the domestic studies conducted on in the field of internal controls, the gap of providing models for identifying weak internal controls is felt completely. The present study is aimed at providing a model for assessing the quality of internal controls based on the characteristics of the economic unit, the characteristics of auditor as well as their expected goals in the Firm's liste...
